I need to re-read this again. One of the most amazing books I’ve ever read. Whenever someone tells me they love science fiction, or Michael Crichton (RIP) or that that Harry Potter or Twilight are “truly genius, even though they were made for children, they’re real literature, blah blah blah,” I say, “Read Ender’s Game, then we’ll talk.”
Every single person I know who’s read the book has come back and said it’s one of the best books they’ve ever read. My friend’s AIM screen name is EnderWig. I have a co-worker whose son is named Ender. This is serious business.
I’m still waiting for the film to come out - looks like they need some financing.
I loved this book so much that my friend and I went to see Orson Scott Card at the Book Review in Huntington when we were kids. We even bought his terrible book Prentice Alvin because we figured it would have to be good. That’s when we learned that Card himself is a bit of a psychopath, homophobe and an ultra-conservative.
That said, this book (and I hear the 4-book series) is absolute genius. I’m seeing now that he revisited the book with another installation, Ender’s Shadow, that looks back at the first story from another character’s point of view. I’ve gotta get that.
