DC Caribbean Carnival 2008
I took my boyfriend to the Caribbean Carnival this past Saturday. Besides a quick and vicious thunderstorm, the weather was pretty nice. My boyfriend, however, was quickly turning red from sunburn in a sea of Caribbean people, but it was very cute.
This was definitely not on the scale that I thought it would be, people and food wise, but it was alright for a small thing. If this was New York… it’d be partying for days. But that’s why NY is the best :)
The food, however, if you can find some good Caribbean food here (why is it so hard?! Does anyone in DC have a good recommendation that is NOT the Islander!) is definitely worth a try. Get some curried goat with roti, doubles, sno cones (yes, you can get sno cones anywhere, but this is such a Caribbean thing. They make them differently, as well), callaloo (kind of like a creamed spinach without the cream), pholouri (rice and peas), I could go on and on. Here is a picture of my curried goat with roti. I was so excited that I forgot to take a pic until I was almost done. And I posted a pic of the costumes- but again, if this was NY, you’d see some real crazy stuff!
Teanna! Next time you’re up here, the four of us are going to the Red Hook Ball Fields for sure. Can’t wait to see you.
