Why they changed it I can't say, people just liked it better that way

We call it the ‘product launch’ when you put the product in front of customers — and you should do that as soon as possible — but do the marketing launch — when you’re pounding your chest and talking about how great you are — as late as possible.

If you have great relationships with the press, than they’re more than the media, they’re customers too. And they can be just as integral in helping you iterate and build on your ideas. They’re the ones who will ultimately distill your vision down to a nut graph and a few anecdotes, so make sure you develop those relationships early so they’ll be open and honest with you as you have those informal conversations around your alpha or beta or demo, and they don’t catch you completely by surprise when the time does come to write about your business.
